WW: Gio's First Haircut!

Our youngest, Giovanni had some crazy long hair. We've been trying to wait for the 1 year mark to cut, to keep with tradition, but it really couldn't wait any longer.
See what I mean? It was time.

This weekend we took him to a place in town with a cute little kids' station. And he did AWESOME! He sat still, didn't cry, and smiled the whole time.

First cut *sniff, sniff*

I was sad to see his little baby hair go away, but he sure is a handsome little man!

WW: Day at the Beach

One of the benefits of having a friend move away to Florida, is visiting them and having beach days! My friend Amanda lives just 5-10 minutes away from one, can we say I'm jealous! A day spent at the beach was much needed. It was also Giovanni's first time at the beach and he LOVED it! And even though it was January, it was 70 and gorgeous!

My love bug & I
He was so enthralled with the sand and the sea shells. Although, we constantly had to clean out his mouth..oh baby!
First time in the Atlantic Ocean! His reaction...IT'S COLD! Feet when in, then straight up! Ah, next time we will go when it's a bit warmer. ;)

Amanda loved showing him the beach.

Little Baby. Big World.

After spending time on the beach, it was only fitting that we head over to Joe's Crab Shack outside, right on the beach. Yummy!  I even broke down and tried Calamari...and surprising loved it!
Amanda ordered a Shark Bite, a delicious alcoholic beverage, but since I'm breastfeeding I asked to have one alcohol free.... So they brought me the kiddie version, the Shark nibbler! Ah, I guess I was kind of expecting the same glass but no alcohol added. Oh well, I got to take the toy sharks home for the boys. Bonus!
I can see why they tell you not to feed the birds..aka, pigeons. They won't stop with one bite!
I'm pretty sure this bird is threatening me with his eyes! So creepy and beautiful at the same time..

After lunch, we just walked around the boardwalk and did some shopping. We stopped in this little "park" area and enjoyed the beach and the surfboard statues. I can see it already, future surfer! ;)
Para-sailing anyone? And what a beautiful afternoon to do it. I'm going to have to try that one day..but not anytime soon. ;) he he.

I have a little obsession with Palm Trees.. Like, I would stick them in my yard right now, if I knew they wouldn't survive. Ah, sigh, I'll just have to settle with the billion pictures I took of ones on the trip.

Traveling with an Infant

Giovanni and I just got back from spending a week in Florida with my friend Amanda. Considering the circumstances, Tony and I decided it would just be me going, and since Giovanni was exclusively breastfed, him as well. It was a tough call leaving my other men home, but it was the right thing.

My brother works for an airline and gets "passes" which are standby tickets. He was gracious enough to give me one of his tickets so I could fly down to Jacksonville and back. I have only ever flown once (well twice but only for one trip)! Yep, I'm pretty much a flying rookie. And add in a baby this time around and you could say I was scared to death! Seriously, we've all heard those horror stories of babies screaming the whole time... But I can honestly say flying with a 9(10) month old was WAY easier than expected! Maybe it's the age, or that  he's an unbelievable great baby already, but it went flawless.

We talked with our pediatrician for some advice on flying beforehand and she said that take off and landing could pose a problem for their little ears, so have them suck on a bottle or paci on landing and if their ears are bothering them then use Hot-hands. They are sold at Walgreens for a $1. Every babies different, but thankfully I never had a problem and he slept through all the landings.

*A MUST* Bring an umbrella stroller! It's not just for having it on the trip, but it's so convenient while traveling as well.  It's nice to use around the airport and not have to juggle the bags and the baby in my arms. It was also convenient that I could take it with me all the way up into I boarded the plane and it was waiting for me as soon as I got off the plane.

These are the items I packed into our diaper bag as a carry on:

-5 diapers (better be safe than sorry)
-Change of clothes
-A small bag of 4 "quiet" toys
- sandwich bag of cheerios
-sandwich bag of puffs
-1 bottle of breast milk

*Important reminder* If you didn't spring for an extra ticket, but instead are going to have your baby as a lap child (like I did), then make sure to bring their birth certificate with you. Doesn't matter how old the child is, they will need to verify that the babe is under two.

Our view headed to Florida from the sky.
Nothing but snuggles the whole way back!
He fell asleep 20 minutes into the flight and slept until we landed, even through all the horrible turbulence! Such a sweetie.
The real key to a successful flight is to know your child and pack accordingly. It's really is as simple as that. And remember people generally are understanding and are willing to help.

MIA-Where I've been

It's been a little over 2 weeks since my last post.. and I've been MIA so to speak, but a lot has gone on. Just twenty short minutes after I posted "Fragility of life." My friend's mom, Theresa, went to be with the Lord. It was a shock at how fast it all happened, thankfully she went peacefully surrounded by her family.

Amanda is one of my dearest best friends. We have known each other since we were just 3 years old and grew up hip to hip. So many memories have been shared with her. Amanda and her "little" sister are much apart of my family too. She means the world to me and I knew I was needed there by her side. She lives in Jacksonville, Fl and so I booked the first available flight I could get and Giovanni and I left the following Wednesday. We stayed a week and just got home late Tuesday night. (I will do a recap of traveling with an infant later). It's been a very emotional couple of weeks. It's always sad to see someone so young (59) to pass on, and it's especially hard when they were very dear to your heart.

The last week was filled with so many wonderful memories and emotions. There was lots of tears, laughter, shopping, and good old fashion friend time at the beach. Sometimes when life gets serious, you just need that one person in your life to be real with. I'm glad I could be there, if only to just listen.
Their family has been hit hard in the last year with several devastating blows, and now this. But it's truly inspiring how their whole perspective on this last years events aren't ones of misery and defeat but of God's glory and love. And the funeral of their mom, was no exception. It was the most beautiful inspiring service I had ever been too. So many people gathered together to not only remember Theresa's life but to praise God! A true worship service of praise. And Theresa's wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
We only get one life to live. We can spend it focused on material things, or we can live it to the fullest and change the world.

Proverbs 31:30.."Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."

Fragility of life

Sometimes we just don't get it.  The way we complain. "Oh it's too cold, too hot, I'm stuck in traffic, the kids are being bad, I have to go to work, have to go to school, I'm never going to marry, etc, etc.."

Don't you realize how trivial those things are in the big picture of life?!? Why can't we see how blessed we are?! I know I can't say much, because I know I have done it too, but today, I understand the "big picture," and those things mean nothing in it..

Life is just to fragile.

Maybe I'm sounding a little blunt, but you see, my heart aches today. It aches for one of my dearest  friends, Amanda. She got some bad news about her mom, Theresa, who has Pancreatic Cancer, is now terminal. And today, they did a procedure to extend her life for another couple of months, but it seems that hasn't work. And now they are faced with the harsh reality, that they just shared their last Christmas with her.

The eternal truths are crystal clear, especially now; everything can change, things don't always go according to plan, life never goes as you thought it would, and will often leave you feeling empty. No amount of words could comfort my friend's broken heart. I can't take away her pain with a hug. But through all the emptiness, I know there is someone who can. And praise God, her mom, knew Him well too. Maybe not at this moment, but Jesus will shine through and provide peace that surpasses all understanding to my friend's family.

So tonight, hold your loves ones a little longer and soak up every moment of, life.

9(1/2) Month Update!

Weight: 17lbs 9oz
Height: 27 1/4 ins

If you saw Giovanni's last update, you maybe surprised about his weight. I was too, but when they weighed him at 8 months, I remember thinking they didn't wait fully to when the numbers stop moving on the scale.  This time they did. So, no he didn't loose any weight. And I have no doubts that our little man is growing perfectly. He's in 6/9 months clothes, but still wears a couple of 3/6 month pants (he has a tiny waist) He's moved up to size three diapers too. It's weird having both boys in the same size diaper..

This month has sparked a huge interest in toys in him. Oh sure he would play with a rattle or gnaw on a car, but now he is really interested in playing with the toys. Which is perfect since he has a bunch of new toys from Christmas. Unless he's tired, he prefers not to cuddle, he'd rather be down on the floor playing or walking around in his walker. And boy does he move it that! And Even though he's not walking, just worm crawling, he gets into everything! He's still sleeping great at night and he is finally back to taking 2 naps a day. He really is a great baby!

-Pulled to a stand! 12/13/2011.. hasn't really done it since.

-Cut his 3rd & 4th tooth! (3rd on 12-8 & 4th on 12-28)

-Celebrate his first Christmas!

-Plays peekaboo if he has a blanket in his hands

-`A stuffed Mickey Mouse (he sleeps with it)
-His Walker
-Biter biscuits & puffs
-All his new toys from Christmas

-Being idle in the car
-Mum mums (he'd rather scratch them together than eat them)

Giovanni has finally decided he's ready for more solid food, other than once a day. Right now he eats solids twice a day. And usually it's when we're eating. He is super interested in what we are having, especially at dinner, so we have been giving him small bites our what we are having, and he's loving it! With the pick up of solids, his nursing feedings have dropped off a little and he will go longer between sittings.

Picture Time:

A side by side monthly comparison picture. He's grown so much!

And for fun, a side by side comparison of Dominic & Giovanni both at 9 1/2 months.

Feel free to check out his previous, 8th month update here.

WW - Welcoming in the New Year

We've been hosting New Years Eve parties every year we've been married, except one, the year Dominic was a newborn. It's become a regular tradition with our best friends to get together play games, and munch on yummy snacks.

This year, with the addition of our second baby, and a still swollen ankle, we couldn't decided to have it or not. Literally, just hours before the party I canceled it, only to get countless texts asking to still come by, we finally said screw it, and held the party anyway. And I am so glad I did.
G's very first NYE! Of course he just stayed up long enough to say hi to the guest.
Some of my closest friends and I. I'm glad they pushed me into having this party.

We literally only got through one game this year. And it has to be one of the best party games ever. It's called Curses. (Totally church appropriate, btw) If you are in the look out for new party games, pick this one up!
Two of my best friends and their significant others : )

Dominic was in heaven with two little girls there to play with, although he's a bit rough and tough for their liking. ;) And ended up having to go to bed at 11.

This is what happens when you arrive to our party late. Ha ha. Good times.
Kathleen and I have spent almost every NYE with each other. It's a life long tradition and I wouldn't have it any other way.
And it wouldn't be NYE, with out a picture of my love and I.
And I couldn't resist posting these sweet pics of the boys from New Year's Day.
Happy New Year!
